Rathburn Chemicals is producing high quality solvents in the village of Walkerburn in the Scottish Borders.

Rathburn Chemicals was founded by Dr Angus Campbell Mackay, with a single still, in 1975. As the business grew, it was the first company in the UK to offer solvents for HPLC and these remain a core Rathburn product. The business has grown thanks to customer recommendation and repeat sales and its reputation for excellence and reliability endures.

The striking red, black and orange livery of Rathburn Chemicals is a familiar sight in many laboratories in the UK and overseas, and the company has a number of high-profile customers in the fields of medical research, pharmaceuticals, food and drinks manufacture, and government agencies. Our production techniques allow us to produce bespoke solvents to meet individual customers’ specifications.
